As you can see, Charlie, my Texas Defender, disguised as a Snake Slayer IV, put three Montana Mountain Grouse on my dinner table this hunting season. Mountain Grouse (Blue, Ruffled and Franklin) in Montana can be shot with a bow, rifle, shotgun, or a pistol with a bag limit of three birds per day for a total of 12 birds in possession.

We do have some nice sized Timber rattlers up here in the Sapphire Mountains on the east side of the Bitterroot Valley to test my Bond Derringer on, but not in the Bitterroot Mountains to the west where I was hunting these Franklin Grouse.

I found that my Bond Derringer, using #6 Shot in a 3-inch, .410 shot shell is great for Mountain Grouse who like to hide in thick brush and timber and flush when you’re only a few feet away.

My Bond Derringer can be brought to bear upon such birds in heavy brush or thick timber faster than my 12-gauge Remington shotgun.

It also allows me to shoot such flushing birds closer in than I would with the shotgun also using #6 shot.

With the shotgun I have to let the bird fly off about 30 or 40 feet get a good shot spread with less damage to the bird itself. In heavy brush and timber, the bird can often find shelter in that distance or brush and limbs protect the flying bird from the shot.

The Bond Derringer, however, has a nice spread for Grouse from 8 to 20 feet away and the .410 shot shell doesn’t damage the birds like the 12-gauge will do that close in.

I’ve also found my Bond Derringer is excellent for finishing off a crippled bird shot with the 12-gauge.

Have a nice day, Charlie, and, by the way, thanks for the Bond cap and the great service that I’ve received from both your company’s website and calling you directly for the Silverwood extended grips with a star, left hand locking lever and the 4.25-inch barrel.

If you ever make a 4.25-inch, .41 Remington Magnum / .410 barrel or just a .41 magnum barrel, I’ll buy the first one off the assembly line, as both my Ruger Blackhawk and Marlin rifle are in .41 magnum caliber.

Oh, by the way, the Grouse were simply delicious.

Keni Marie Haswell,

a devoted Bond Derringer fan.
